ON SUNDAY NIGHT, Saoirse Ronan won a Golden Globe for her role in Lady Bird, doing the whole country proud.

Saoirse brought her best friend Eileen (who you might recognise from Brooklyn) as her date – she told Jimmy Fallon last night that she did ask her mam Monica to come, but eh… Fran had to come first.

Who’s Fran, you might ask? Well:

[My mam] got a new puppy called Fran. She’s about a year and a half old now. We think she’s a Westie terrier mixed with a Golden Retriever and I don’t know how that worked at the time. I think if I was a dog, I’d look like Fran. She’s blonde and a bit… mad looking.

“She passed on the Golden Globes to look after Fran,” Saoirse said. “Fran has become the priority for mam for sure right now.”

As we know already, her mam was present for her speech via FaceTime, though the time difference meant she was in a bit of a state:

She was bawling her eyes out cos she was so tired, it was about 3am in Ireland so she was so tired! She had just been tossing back the tea to stay awake for hours and hours.

So cute. Can you imagine being Saoirse Ronan’s mammy right now? Fit to burst from the pride.

The rest of her Jimmy Fallon interview is lovely as per (as well as the bit in this video where she tells him to lay off the embarrassing Irish accent) – watch it here:
